Things to do in Indonesia

What to experience

Mount Bromo's volcanic crater at dawn, Komodo dragons on their native island, Borobudur temple in morning mist. Indonesia is 17,000 islands — the challenge is choosing which ones.

Insider tip

Indonesia's sheer scale requires strategic planning. The archipelago spans a distance wider than the USA. Domestic flights (Lion Air, Citilink, Garuda) connect everything affordably — typically €15-40 for short hops.

Beyond Bali, Indonesia reveals extraordinary diversity. Lombok (2 hours by fast boat) has similar landscapes with half the crowds. Yogyakarta is the cultural heart of Java — base for Borobudur and Prambanan. Flores is the gateway to Komodo and arguably the most beautiful island in the archipelago.
